In an era when changes in health care and advances in medical science whiz
by us all like so many cars in the fast lane, who can keep up?
Almost every day, medical researchers at Stanford are making another
discovery. Whether it's developing a new form of gene therapy, or a laser
treatment for astigmatism, or sequencing the genome for baker's yeast --
all have a role, somewhere, in shaping the future of medical science and
health care.
This month, the Stanford University Medical Center News Bureau launches
Stanford HealthLink, a community outreach project that aims to connect
global online users -- as well as our own Silicon Valley neighbors -- with
a world of medical and health care resources, online and off.
Whether it's health-related events and lectures, medical news briefs,
listings of blood drives and support groups for patients, or just an
e-mail address or phone number to get the information you want -- we hope
it serves the community well as a information-packed resource guide, not a
medical journal.
Here in Stanford HealthLink Online, we have the room to include more
in-depth material for readers and users everywhere: feature articles on
the latest medical clinical goings-on at Stanford, from the award-winning
Stanford Medicine; excerpts from the new comprehensive diet book, The
Stanford Life Plan for a Healthy Heart; a news section that brings you up
to date on the latest medical science breakthroughs at Stanford; and links
to some of the more interesting and useful medical resources currently
available on the Web.
