OMNI (Organising Medical Networked Information) - building a gateway to
networked information services of interest to biomedical researchers,
academics and students. The Project is funded by JISC and managed as part of
the Electronic Libraries Project (eLib.

*** OMNI Network Training Workshop: The Internet for Medical Librarians ***

Venue: Queen Mary and Westfield College, Mile End Road, London
Dates: Monday 30 September 1996 and repeated on Tuesday 1 October 1996

If you are a medical librarian currently using Internet resources, this
workshop will offer you the opportunity to sharpen your use of the Net,
strengthen your searching skills and give guidance on the evaluation of
resources.

Hands-on sessions will be a key feature and all the notes and exercises will
be available in a workshop manual to take away, for reference or for use as
a training device in your own institutions.

Places will be strictly limited to allow delegates to have their own
workstation.

Setting the scene with a short overview of the scope of medical information
on the Internet

11.30 Finding the right information
Comparing the options for searching the Internet, assessing the relative merits
of the major search tools available now (hands-on)

2.30 Evaluation and selection strategies
How do you assess Internet resources? Practical strategies for evaluation
(hands-on)

4.00 Managing the deluge
Never lose a URL again! Organising your view of the World's biggest
information system (hands-on)
