I just came upon an Web organization that some, if not maybe many of you might be interested in looking into. Its URL is http://cause-www.colorado.edu/
Ok, ok I know someone's goin' to say to start perkin' Coffee this group's been around for a while. Well "anywho" to me they just came out with a 9 page document that's to me required reading for all you informatic buffs. It's titled: "The Financial Mythology of Information Technology: The New Economics" by J. Oberlin. The abstract of this paper is as follows: "One of the most misunderstood aspects of managing information technology is the attendant economics. The rate of technical advancement is accelerating, demand is intensifying, standards and architectures are changing daily, prices are falling, but total costs are growing (sic how true). Yet the legacy-based fiscal thinking of both technologists and financial offers has changed little in the face of these new realities. Understanding the economics of information technology is a necessary first step toward developing sound financial strategies to accommodate advancements. This article is an updated version of cnc9508.
Check this out it just might be worth your time!!
Oh yes, the URL of this paper is

"Health Reviews", http://www.mcphu.edu/libraries/resources/reviews/revw_ind.htm, from Margaret Thompson is an important new Internet resource. "Health Reviews" presents a wealth of critiques of important current medical journal articles.
Health Reviews may suggest a practical mechanism to enhance the quality of the Internet medical literature database.
Currently authors are not permitted to post full text of a contribution to the New England Journal of Medicine to a web site.
Can they post "reviews" on Internet that they are also publishing in the journals? It is apparent from "Health Reviews" that this is allowed from the ACP, JFP journals. Is this acceptable for other publishers and specialties?
I imagine that this dual publishing would serve the purposes of disseminating important medical knowledge and advancing the academic standing of the authors. It would also support the publishers by increasing the interest in the full text of the articles?
Appreciate your thoughts....Gary

You may be interested (and have mixed feelings about) a Web directory, derived from phone directories, that purports to list over 90,000,000 names and addresses and phone numbers. It is easy to use and fast.
The location is <URL:http://www.switchboard.com/>.
I reproduce below their initial text which also shows their options. I'm sure its value is in building a data base for sale to others; at the moment it's free for individual use for individual searches. --pg

(apologies to those of you who have already seen this)
DERWeb (Dental Education Resources on the Web) is a project based at the University of Sheffield, to create a library of clinical dental images for use in teaching and non-commercial research of dentistry. There are a range of supporting materials to back up this image library, including a section on teaching materials to provide both useful educational resources and ideas for how to integrate digital images into www documents.
DERWeb has now moved to a new WWW server and can be found at:
http://panizzi.shef.ac.uk/derweb/derweb.html
The whole of the WWW site has undergone a 'new look' to coincide with the launch of the new server, and does uses Netscape extensions in places.
The image library now has 1,100 images (with a further 100 to be added later this week) on Paedodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine, Preventative Dentistry and Restorative Dentistry.
Also, the British Society for CAL in Dentistry (BSCD) WWW pages are now maintained and housed at the same site and can be accessed at:
http://panizzi.shef.ac.uk/derweb/bscd/bscdhome.html
The DERWeb project actively encourages submissions of images and teaching materials from other sources, so if you wish to be involved with the project please contact me directly. Also if you have any further questions or want more information, please get in touch,

My new utility, "webCATS: Library OPACs on the World Wide Web", is now available for use. Here you will find links to all the online public-access library catalogues with web interfaces.
It is at:
<URL:http://library.usask.ca/hywebcat/>
The utility is still "in beta" i.e. some features have yet to be turned on: the ability to add information regarding your own OPAC, and the search tool.
Please try it out and send me your comments.
