The following is from a press release from the Friends of the National
Library of Medicine:
Conference Highlights Health Applications on the Information Superhighway
The Friends of the National Library of Medicine will host "The Emerging
Health Information Infastructure: Enabling the Vision," on April 14-16 in
Washington, DC at the Georgetown University Conference Center. This
national conference will broadly explore how the emerging national
information infastructure can be used to improve health.
HII '96 will seek to identify the possibilities and barriers keeping the
healthcare community from attaining the vision of using the information
infrastructure to improve America's healthcare. The conference will
focus on four key areas:
Telmedicine/Telehealth;
Networked Consumer Health Information;
Health Records and Privacy;
Health Data Integration.
Invited keynote speakers include Vice President Al Gore; House Speaker
Newt Gingrich; and Health and Human Services Secreatary Donna Shalala.
Other speakers include Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV); Senator Allen
Simpson (R-WY); former US Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop; noted
heart surgeon, Dr. Michael E. DeBakey; and telemedicine gurus Dr. Jay
Sanders and Dr. Eric Tangalos.
