I picked up a CD-ROM titled: "Visual Man" at a computer show for about $30.
The
CD "contains over 1800 cross-section images of a male body. ... These images
were...converted to 24-bit JPEG format to fit onto a single CD-ROM."

The software is not real sophisticated, but it is easy to use and the images
are beautiful.

Someone floated a recommendation recently for an articlae on informataics and medical libraries. It is one of a series of 4, published in Academic Medicine, and worth looking up, eading and circulating to physicians and admiinistrators. I like the fact that it was published in a "medical" journal; experience taught me that such sources command more attention than (gulp, gulp) BMLA, etc. Anyway, the articles are under "medical informatics", Mark E. Frisse, MD, Assoc. Editor. Other authors in the series are: Robert M. Braude Phd, Valerie Florance Phd, Sherrilynne Fuller Phd. Although the emphasis in on acadaaeamic steetings, there is a lot in there that is relevant to hospital libraries, esp. teaching hospitals, and for the eventuality of networking to and with a medical caenataear. Your administrataoars need ato understand what's out there and how it came about, and what's a librarian for...I am not going to repeat the authors, just titles and sources (it's also on Medline):

1. Inforamtics and medical librarians: changing needs and changing roles. Acad. Med. Jan. 1995: 70(1):30-35 2. the organization of the digital library. Acad. Med. April 1995; 7-(4):286-291 3. Educataing p[hysicinas to use the digital library. Acad. Med. July 1995; 70(7):597-602. 4. Managing information in the academic medical center: building an integrated information environment. Acad. Med. Oct. 1995;70(10):887-891

Another articale that is of interest was called to my attention by one of our physicians. Article feedss right into some of my staff who have varied allergies, namely that there is something in the air that causes them to pause and pay attention. Now we know that there is plenty dust all around, but go ahead, read the following:

Ray Rj. Sick Library Syndrome. Lancet Dec. 19, 1995; 346 (#8990):1573-4).

I just finished adding about 230 new resources to the health and safety resource list on the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety's WWW server.

The resource list is a combination of the October 1995 release of Carolla Christie's "Safety Related Internet Resources" list (as always, a wonderful resource) and other resources I've heard about - mostly from the people who maintain them.

Just to give you an idea of how things are growing, when I last updated things in July, there were about 640 resources listed. There are now 873 resources listed. Something like 180 of the 230 new resources are World Wide Web servers. Here's a breakdown of the numbers by type of resource, for those of you who are interested in that sort of thing!

World Wide Web servers 481 Mailing lists 140 Gopher servers 97 FTP servers 50 E-mail addresses 35 Newsgroups 28 Telnet-accessible systems 22 Electronic pubs 14 Software 4 IRC channels 1 E-mail FTP gateway 1

Please feel free to have a look at http://www.ccohs.ca - you can start at our home page, then choose Other Health and Safety Resources, then Safety Related Internet Resources. If you find something that doesn't work, or if you have anything to add, please let me know.
