*** CONTRIBUTE TO OMNI ***

The OMNI project is looking for volunteers to help us make OMNI the
UK's best biomedical Internet service. Read on if you are a
practitioner, librarian, researcher, lecturer or student and would like
to be involved.

How can you help?

There are several ways you can help OMNI.

* Volunteer to add descriptions of resources to the OMNI database.

* Become an OMNI reviewer - and assess our coverage in a particular
subject area.

* If you are providing information on the Internet, collaborate with us
by sending us information about your services and data.

* Some other way? If you think you can help OMNI in some way not
mentioned above, please get in touch - we are open to suggestions!

VOLUNTEERING - YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED!

[?] I don't have a lot of time to spare, how much commitment is
required?

We recognise that you are all busy people. Our aim is to benefit from
your knowledge and expertise, not to burden you with vast amounts of
overtime. You can spend as little or as much time on OMNI as is
appropriate for you, there is no minimum commitment.

[?] I'd like to help, but I've never been involved with a project like
this one

It's more important that you have experience of organising information
and/or subject knowledge. Creating OMNI records is not complicated,
and we will be holding a Training Workshop on 31st January to help
you.

[?] Will I, or my organisation, receive any acknowledgment of my
contribution?

Yes! We will soon be creating a collaborators page at OMNI, where all
our volunteers, reviewers and collaborators will be listed. A link to
your own home page will be made if requested.

[?] I'm convinced, how do I volunteer?

Below is a "Developing OMNI" questionnaire, please fill in as much
detail as possible and return it to me, Sue Welsh by post or e-mail
(see addresses at the end of this message). Also, consider attending the
Training Workshop, and keep the 31st January free in your diary.

Can you suggest any novel resources that OMNI could usefully host?

Are there any non-UK resources you have found particularly valuable
that you think OMNI could mirror for the benefit of the UK higher
education and research community?

Are you aware of any initiatives or projects that OMNI could
collaborate with (UK or non-UK, departmental, institutional or
national)? Please provide contact details if you can.

Do you know any colleagues who might be interested in hearing about
OMNI or contributing towards the future development of OMNI? If so,
please indicate a contact name and address for each and how you think
they might like to be involved.

Can you recommend subject experts (e.g. lecturers, researchers or
practitioners) from your home or other institutions who would be
interested in reviewing periodically the OMNI coverage of resources in
their field of expertise? Please provide contact details.

Additional comments. Please expand - your suggestions are welcome!

Comments on any aspects of the OMNI service can be mailed at any time
