[Apologies for multiple postings - For those of you already aware of
the project, this contains information about new features added to
the WWW site.]
The DERWeb (Dental Education Resources on the Web) project is an
HEFCE-JISC New Technologies Initiative funded project, based at the
University of Sheffield, UK. The primary aim is to create an
internationally available library of dental images to help improve
the teaching and research in the field of dentistry. Subject to
certain conditions, these images are freely available for use in
education and non-commercial research and are accessible over the
WWW.
The DERWeb image library now has an interim search engine, allowing
you to carry out simple searches for images that may be of interest
and of use to you. There are currently 600 images available, with a
further 300 waiting to be added in the next few weeks. These are
mainly in the area of restorative dentistry, but will include images
from Oral surgery and Paediatric dentistry in the next few months,
and other areas of dentistry over the course of the project. Images
will continue to be added on a regular basis up to 3,000 (maybe!) by
the end of July 96.
The DERWeb WWW site has a whole host of supporting materials for all
aspects of dentistry and has recently started adding a series of
educational case studies. There are currently 3 avaialbe on
periodontitis, an Aesthetic Treatment Planning Problem, and a Method
of Recording Retruded Contact Position using a Gothic Arch Tracing
During Complete Denture Construction. More will be added in the near
future.
